What's AFZ
The Apartheid Free Zone campaign, as part of the BDS movement, creates spaces across the world that are free from apartheid and colonial occupation by Israel. The idea came from the struggle against racism among the South African people.
The Apartheid Free Zone spaces commit to resisting providing any kind of support for injustice to Palestinians and the apartheid regime caused by the colonial occupation of Israel, and to pursue spaces free from inequality and oppression.
Examples of the AFZ space:
- Community-based small businesses like restaurants, cafés, bookstores, and retail stores
- Academic spaces like universities, research institutions, and academic associations
- Cultural spaces like theatres, libraries, and concert halls
- Events like music festivals, art festivals, and group events
- Governmental institutions like community circles, city councils, and parliaments
- Sports clubs and circles, non-governmental organizations, religious institutions, and corporations
